Cartoon Perspective City Tutorial

Hi, today I’m going to show you how to create a Cartoon Perspective City. This drawing uses one-point perspective to make everything look like it’s going far into the distance. I also split the picture into two sides to create a cool cartoon-style illusion. I’ll walk you step by step through how to draw the road, buildings, and details so you can make your own version.

The final product: 

Materials you will need 

• A blank piece of paper 
• A pencil 
• A ruler 
• A sharpie (Optional)
• Acrylic Markers (Optional)

Guidelines Steps

Step 1: 

Put your paper Horizontally. Then grab your ruler and put it Diagonally in the middle. Then draw a line from the upper right-hand corner to the bottom left-hand corner, like so. 

Step 2: 

The next step is to do the same thing, but you will be drawing a line from the upper left-hand corner to the bottom right-hand corner, like so. 

Step 3: 

Next, you are going to put your ruler directly in the middle of the paper. Draw a line going from the top to the bottom like so. 

Step 4: 

The next step is to put your ruler Horizontally in the middle of the paper. Then draw your line, like so. 

Buildings Steps

Step 1: 

Grab your ruler and put it in the vertical position on the right-hand side of the paper from the center of the paper, and draw a line like so 

Step 2: 

Use your ruler to connect the corners back to the Vanishing point so it looks 3D, like so 

Step 3: 

Put your ruler back into the vertical position. Give yourself 2 fingers' width of space. Then draw your line like so.

Step 4: 

Continue to do Steps 1, 2, and 3 for the next building, like so.

Step 5: 

Continue to do Steps 1, 2, and 3 for all of the buildings until you hit the dot in the middle. But when you get to step 3, make the width smaller and smaller as you go along. When you hit the center of the paper, it should look like this. 

Steps 6: 

As you can see, you have buildings done. The next step is to erase the Diagonal top lines that are between the buildings, like so.

Step 7: 

The next step is to erase the Horizontal line from only the right-hand side of the center, like so

Step 8:

The next step is to erase the Diagonal bottom lines that are between the buildings, like so.

road step

Step 1:

We will be working on the road next. There is only one step on the road. On the bottom vertical line,  you are going to make a small dashed line at the center. As you go down to the bottom of the paper, the dashes will get bigger like so.

The Tree Steps

Step 1:

You are going to draw the tree trunk first. You are going to draw the line from the horizontal line to the bottom Diagonal line. You are also going to erase the Diagonal line in the middle of the tree, like so. 

Step 2: 

The next step is to draw the tree part. You are going to draw a cloud shape that will connect to the trunk like so. 

Step 3: 

You are going to do the same thing you did in Steps 1 and 2, but you are going to erase the top Diagonal. As you continue making trees, like so. 

Step 4:

You are going to continue to make trees, but you are going to make them smaller as you hit the center of the paper, like so. 

 Windows, Doors And Clouds

Step 1:

The next step is to draw windows, the doors, and the clouds. When you're done with that, it will look like this. 

Coloring it (Optional)

Step 1:

This step is optional; you do not have to color the picture. This is also the last step. If you choose to color your drawing, the final product will look like this.
